During May 2024 we have been thrilled to host an installation of The Body Room at Goldsmiths University. This edition of The Body Room has kindly been made possible by support from Dr Marina Rova and the Department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies at Goldsmiths University.

We are excited to share more about this edition of The Body Room at our Artist & Research Talk.

What would you do in The Body Room?

Why The Body Room?

We are both concerned with the social and political climate rooted in patriarchy. We believe that society’s expectations of our bodies can be a heavy weight to carry. The Body Room is an inclusive feminist space that enables our guests to enter into a dialogue with their own body on terms that are radically different to those that society conventionally imposes on our bodies.

How does it work?

Our guests make an appointment to spend one hour alone in The Body Room. The room is set up with a large expanse of blank paper on the wall and floor, and a table of art supplies. Guests are provided with a thorough explanation of the project and what to expect before their appointment, and are assured of their safety and privacy during their time in The Body Room.

What happens to the artwork created in The Body Room?

After their hour, we invite our guests to take photographs of what for them documents their time in The Body Room. We also offer our guests the opportunity to donate a portion of their work to The Body Room, keep their work or have their work confidentially disposed of.

All photos and work donated to The Body Room are done so anonymously and our guests sign a release form, assuring them of their privacy and giving The Body Room the rights to use these images.

Our Story So Far …

In July 2019, we conducted the first installation of The Body Room in Valencia, Spain.

In March 2020, we had our UK debut in Peckham, London, with a residency at The New Earth Art School. We managed to safely and successfully conduct our first week of guest appointments, before closing early due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In October 2020, we were due to return to Valencia and participate in the Intramurs Art Festival, but sadly this was not possible due to the ongoing pandemic.

During 2021 to 2023, the project has been on hiatus. However we are excited to be returning to London in May 2024 for a new 2-week residency, to be held in collaboration with Goldsmiths University.

We are always interested in finding new locations and partners for the project. Please contact us if you would like to collaborate. Available in English & Spanish
